Floyd Schofield downgraded Shakur Stevenson when asked if reports were true that he had beaten the New Jersey native during sparring with him and Devin Haney. The undefeated n. 2 WBA lightweight contender Schofield (17-0, 12 KO) says sparring has made him realize that Shakur and Haney are not. “who they say they are.” When Schofield made this comment, he wore a devilish smile that suggested he had beaten both types.

Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) didn’t like being punched by the 22-year-old Schofield, and took to social media to tell him and his followers that he sent them after, saying “I’m the most greatest boxer he ever saw.”

While that may sound good coming from Shakur, young upstart Schofield might have just blown smoke up his back to give false flattery in a politically meaningless way. It seems he was showing sympathy to Shakur by giving him fake praise after working sparring. Schofield has a political air about him. He is not going to let anyone have if the way other fighters do by telling the truth, but in this interview, he made it clear that Haney and Shakur are not that good.

You can tell by watching Schofield speak that he is polite and doesn’t roast his opponents. For Schofield to say he found out Shakur and Haney weren’t who they said they were, you have to believe it was an unfiltered moment where he was giving them real thoughts.

With Schofield’s power, speed and punching style, it’s easy to imagine him beating Shakur and Haney in sparring because those guys have nothing to stop a talent like him. Shakur & Haney are fighters who have zero balance in their game.

They are all defense and no offense, so they are not popular and never will be. Schofield has a much better chance of being a star than any of those fighters because he has a fun style. To become a star in boxing or any sport, you have to have fun. That’s the name of the game now. The boring fighters of the past, like Mayweather, just don’t cut it in this era.

“Lil bro was in my DMs right after the only sparring we had he told me I’m the greatest boxer he’s ever seen… @KidAustin11. These cameras will expose you. Stop capping so much” , said Shakur Stevenson XHe reacts to Floyd Schofield saying that he and Devin Haney are not who they say they are after sparring with them.

“I’m not going to talk about sparring, but I’ll just say that it was sparring that made me realize that these guys are not what they say they are,” Floyd Schofield told Fight Hub TV when asked if it was true that he beat Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney in sparring.

It’s up to the fans to determine which of the two fighters is telling the truth. Given the way Schofield talks, you have to believe it’s him. He is a straight shooter.

Schofield will fight Rene Tellez Giron (20-3, 13 KOs) in a 12-round main event this Saturday, November 2 at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The event will be shown on DAZN.
