Odell Beckham Jr. is looking for his next opportunity. The Dolphins and former Pro Bowl receiver have mutually agreed to part ways.NFL Network analyst Tom Pelizzero reported Friday that sources are aware of the situation.
Pelissero added that he hopes OBJ gets more opportunities elsewhere and the Dolphins offer his release. Miami announced the news.
“The conversations led to what was best for both parties,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Friday. “I wish him well and support him.”
Beckham’s release on Friday will keep him free until Monday. He is owed approximately $200,000 for the remainder of the season and is nowhere near the incentive of the contract. If he is cleared, Beckham will be free to sign with any team.
The 32-year-old signed a one-year deal worth $3 million in May as a third-string threat in the passing game behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. The production never materialized.
Beckham began the season on the physically unable to perform list after offseason surgery. It was finally implemented on October 5. The wide receiver didn’t have any catches in his first three games and took just 33 snaps in that span. OBJ has nine catches for 55 yards on 18 targets and zero touchdowns on the season.
He doesn’t seem to fit in as the third fiddle in Miami, especially with tight end Jonu Smith’s increasing usage. Beckham’s departure leaves room for rookie Malik Washington to continue as the third receiver without interruption.
Over the past four seasons, Beckham has played in 37 games, hauling in 88 total receptions for 1,157 yards and eight touchdowns. He missed the entire 2022 campaign with a knee injury.
