David Morrell says interim WBC lightweight champion David Benavidez is a “Robocop” who can’t dance and has “nothing” going for him in his upcoming February 1 main event fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) sees Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) as an unathletic robotic fighter who can’t move and couldn’t knock out Caleb Plant in their fight last year. I feel like he will have no problem neutralizing his offense, which requires his opponents to be stationary so he can stand and throw punches in bunches.
Morrell’s mission
It will be interesting to see if Benavidez can handle the power of Morrell, 26, in this fight because Ronald Gavril dropped him in the 12th round of their first fight in 2017. Many boxing fans think that Bebafvidez lost that fight, so there was a rematch. . Benavidez also had problems in his last fight against Oleksandr Gvozdyk.
“It’s no secret to anyone that Benavidez is Robocop. Here it is. Look at Benavidez vs. Plant. It was 12 rounds. This fight revealed secrets,” said David Morrell Premier Boxing ChampionsLet the fans know that David Benavidez is robotic and fought against Caleb Plant.
“I’ve never fought Plant before, but I don’t think Plant had too much power for Benavidez. He’s a big guy. He’s even stronger. So if you have good legs, train hard, have power, and everything, Benavidez now has nothing for you.
“I can dance. I have moves. Benavidez can’t dance. That’s how it is,” Morrell said.
What Benavidez was in the past when he lived at 168 against smaller and older fighters ready to be mothballed for deconstruction is no more. Now he’s fighting at 175 and forced to face high level opposition. So far, Benavidez has not looked good in this new weight class, and there is a good chance he will lose to Morrell by knockout on February 1st.
There is a lot on the line for both fighters in this bout. The winner will fight for the undisputed lightweight championship against Artur Beterbiev or Dmitry Bivol. The loser has to start over and get to the back of the line.
Given the hype and huge push that PBC has put behind Benavidez all these years, they will bring him down quickly and if possible try to set up a rematch with Morrell.
