Lennox Lewis thinks the referee did a bang-up job in Tyson Fury’s previous fight against Oleksandr Usyk with his decision not to stop the fight in the ninth round when “The Gypsy King” was on his feet after being kicked by a left hand
Lewis says Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) was just “play around” bouncing from rope to rope while eating repeated head shots from Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs), and thinks the referee did the right thing by stopping. I watched the fight a dozen times, and at no time did it look like Fury was “playing” like he was hurt. He was mortally wounded, and, shockingly, Lewis could not see that.
The referee threw Unified heavyweight champion Usyk out of the way when he came close to hitting Fury with the finishing blow in the ninth. The referee gave Fury an eight count, which saved his skin. He obtained these two scholarships:
- Eating up precious seconds
- It prevents Usyk from poleaxing
In the Fury-Usyk rematch in nine days on December 21, Usyk made it known that he was coming for a knockout. He’s got the Hitman persona he’s taken over, and he’s coming to finish what he started last time.
Fury “Playing” According to Lewis
“He was hit in the nose, and he got behind the ropes. He bounced off the ropes once,” Lennox Lewis told the media that Tyson Fury was injured by Oleksandr Usyk in the ninth round of the his previous fight on May 18.
“He was playing when he was bouncing off the ropes because he was using the ropes to hold him. He was playing bouncing on the ropes because he was using the ropes to hold him,” Lewis said of Fury. “I think the referee was great in that fight because some referees would have stopped him. That referee was focused, he didn’t stop the fight, and he allowed him to box.”
What is Lewis talking about? Fury wasn’t “Playing” when he bounced off the ropes after being hurt by Usyk in the ninth. He was out on his feet. How can Lewis not know this? It is intentionally obtuse?
Lennox’s push on the referee saving Fury in the ninth round is interesting because he seems to support Fury’s fans, who believe the referee did the right thing by giving him an eight count instead of allowing Usyk to end with the blow. grace
It looked to the fans as the referee gave Fury special treatment to save his skin when he was about to be hit in the next century. It would be interesting to know if Lennox would have felt the same way if Usyk was saved by the referee.
