conflict between Kylian Mbappé and his previous clubParis Saint-Germain knew no truce and the footballer raised his tone, threatening the French capital club’s UEFA license if they refused to pay the 55.4 million he was owed from his latest contract.
The player’s lawyer, Delphine Verheyden, assured L’Équipe newspaper this Saturday that his client will not stop until he receives the sum, as in his opinion he is acting “on behalf of all the players”.
“We are facing a case that goes beyond my client,” the lawyer said, accusing PSG of wanting to break the rules of the game, which “could blow up the system.”
“It sends a message to other clubs: ‘Stop paying your players, it will force them to go to ordinary justice.’ That means a year-and-a-half to first sentence, two years of appeals, and several Supreme Court “ends their lives before they pay.”
Verheyden presented a new appeal this Friday, this time before the French Football Federation (FFF) and with a dual purpose.
On the one hand, the lawyer hopes that the High Appellate Commission will force PSG to comply with the decision of the two cases of the Professional Football League (LFP). Law CommissionOn September 11, and the appeal, on October 25, ruled in favor of the footballer.
But, on the other hand, after the LFP was deemed unable to accept the bans on December 11, the lawyer believes that the FFF should do so and take its case to UEFA.
The European body, according to the lawyer, expects that a club that is not up-to-date with all its payments could lose the license it needs to compete in continental competitions.
With these actions, Verheyden understands that he increases the pressure against the club, which defends itself by ensuring that the difference with Mbappé is resolved only in the normal courts.
PSG accuses the now Real Madrid footballer of avoiding the courts for fear of not seeing the same positive response he has at sporting events.
According to him, that 55.4 million euros is the sum of it The player resigned, presumablyAt the beginning of last season, he reached an agreement with President Nasser Al-Khelaifi to end the conflict between the two as the footballer refused to exercise the third year of the optional contract signed in 2022.
The club then decided to drop him from the first team and agreed to let him return a month later, with the assurance that he would not leave the club without putting some money into PSG’s coffers.
In this context, the footballer and the club play their cards on the grounds they feel will be most advantageous to them.
Mbappé is threatening the club with sporting sanctions, which could break its will before it goes to the ordinary courts, where PSG believes it has more options to enforce the tacit agreement that exempts it from paying 55.4 million.
