Keyshawn Davis says that he knows that he is the one who will beat Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, and he is waiting for him to send the contract for him to sign so that he can fight. This fight will NEVER happen unless Keyshawn beats Andy Cruz and beat him.
Tank will forever use that as a reason not to fight Keyshawn, and it’s understandable why he chose to take that stance. If Keyshawn doesn’t have the confidence to fight Cuban Andy Cruz, it’s a 100% sign that he just wants to fight “Big Tuna” Tank Davis for the life-changing payday he’ll get from the fight. In other words, Keyshawn sees Tank as a money tree.
Why does Keyshawn call the tank?
2020 Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn, 25, has called out WBA lightweight champion Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) since his second-round KO victory over Gustavo Lemos on November 8.
There seems to be a strategy behind the callouts, using Tank’s name to draw attention to his career rather than it being a serious intention.
Prior to Keyshawn’s fight with the tiny 5’5″ Lemos, he had already been set up for that fight to be an eliminator for the WBO lightweight title held by Denys Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KOs. Keyshawn is now mandatory for the Top Rank). -promoted Berinchyk, and he already talked about fighting later.
Keyshawn (12-0, 8 KO) resisted the idea of fighting 2020 Olympic gold medalist Andy Cruz, who has beaten him four times in the amateurs, referring to him as “My son.“He doesn’t want to fight the Cuban and takes an easier route against fighters like Lemos, Miguel Madueno, and now Berinchyk.
Is Top Rank Building A Hype Job?
Many fans see Keyshawn as a fake, another Edgar Berlanga type of combat that the Top Rank is built, trying to make him look better than he is with careful matchmaking. Therefore, Keyshawn is not facing Andy Cruz because he will lose, and all the time that Top Rank spent on development will be wasted.
Bernard Osuna: “You called the big dog in the division in the ring with Mark Kriegel interviewed. What do you know about Tank Davis that some of us do not make you confident that only in your 14th fight you can go there and defeat Tank Davis?
Keyshawn Davis: “I just know who I am. Outside of me being in the ring twice with Tank already sparring, I felt it outside. I understand how he thinks. I just understand boxing. Again, I know who I am. I know I can beat Tank. I know that I will be the one to beat Tank.
“Whenever he is ready, he will send me a contract, and I will sign it, and we will fight.
