Gervonta Davis trashes Artur Beterbiev

Gervonta Davis has criticized newly crowned undisputed lightweight champion Artur Beterbiev, saying he is not a Hall of Fame fighter and is “a**. This was in response to his coach, John Scully, who said that Gervonta would not be HOF-bound if he retired now.

The underlying message Scully seemed to get with his comment about Baltimore native Tank Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) not getting into the Hall of Fame if he retired today was that he’s not ambitious.

Tank Davis’ career summed up

– The use of Catchweights
– Selective matchmaking
– Weak opposition
– Content to hold secondary titles
– No Unification fight

Three-division world champion Tank Davis turns 30 next month on November 7th. He never pushed himself to fight the elite in any of the three weight classes he fought. Davis has been content to win secondary titles in the three divisions he has fought in and has done very little in his current weight class at lightweight.

Some believe that Tank Davis is a manufactured combat designed to make money, but not tested against the best. His management chose his opposition like the scientists, confronting him exclusively against fighters who were certain things for him and who could not lose.

“This big a** goofy he’s training is not a Hall of Fame fighter, and he’s an a**,” Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis said on X, taking a verbal jab at undisputed lightweight champion Artur Beterbiev in response to his coach. John Scully saying that Gervonta is not a Hall of Fame fighter if he has hung up his gloves at this point in his career.

There were no 50-50 battles for Tank, and he never faced anyone where he was the underdog. When he had the opportunity to fight Vasily Lomachenko seven years ago in 2017, when he was called, he chose not to. It was only after Lomachenko had turned 37 and had been beaten a couple of times in recent years that Tank finally agreed to fight.
