Fury vs. Usyk II: Hearn predicts points win for Tyson (but is it biased?)

Eddie Hearn picks Tyson Fury to defeat Oleksandr Usyk on points on Saturday night in their DAZN PPV rematch in Riyadh. Matchroom promoter Hearn is pretty open about why he’s picking the English-born Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) to win, saying it’s because “British” and because of “What may come,” which is code for mega-fight against Anthony Joshua.

Talk about money

U boxing establishment he wants Fury, 36, to win this fight because having him as the unified heavyweight champion is great for business. Fury represents money. Therefore, it is not a surprise that there is a certain despair for him to be victorious against Usyk.

Let us know what Usyk is up against on Saturday night. He is in the same position as Fury’s former opponents, who appeared to have beaten him, but had their victories ripped away. Tyson should have four defeats on his resume, not one. It’s hard to beat a fighter when they’re as popular as Fury.

You have to give Hearn credit for being transparent about his bias, even though it is self-serving. There is much speculation that the fight between Matchroom-promoted Joshua would make Fury fight if he is victorious on Saturday night against WBA, WBC, and WBO heavyweight champion Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.

Honesty or self-interest?

“I think people forget how close the fight was. It’s hard not to pick Oleksandr Usyk for this fight, but I had two rounds max for Oleksandr Usyk. Obviously, it was strange for these standing counts,” said Eddie Hearn Matchroom BoxingThey are talking about the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk first fight earlier this year on May 18.

“I expect another really close fight on Saturday. I chose Tyson Fury for many reasons. I channeled my inner karma to him, because obviously of what could come (Anthony Joshua mega-fight), and the fact that we are English as well.

If Hearn had nothing to gain from a Fury win on Saturday, it would be interesting to know if he would still see him as the winner. My guess is no. Even with his massive 40lb advantage, Fury isn’t on the same talent level as Usyk, and he doesn’t look like the same physical fighter entering the rematch as he was seven months ago when he lost a 12- split round decision.

“I have a sneaky feeling. I saw things yesterday, and I thought (Fury) looked really relaxed. Usyk is talking really arrogant, really different this time. I don’t know if it’s good or bad, but I’m going to Tyson Fury and I’ll beat Tyson Fury on points,” said Hearn.
