The DAZN PPV rematch between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk is set for December 21st in Saudi Arabia with the Gypsy King determined to avenge his only career defeat. Promoter Eddie Hearn, who previously supported the Ukrainian, has now reversed course. Speaking to iFL TV, Hearn acknowledged a change of heart and explained the potential impact of a Fury win.
“If Fury wins – and I’m actually leaning towards him, I’ve got a bit of a change – Fury could fight Anthony Joshua for the unified world heavyweight title,” he said. “The biggest fight ever in sport. Wembley, Riyadh, wherever.
This dramatic change comes just weeks after Hearn openly stated that Usyk’s skill, ring IQ, and previous triumph made him the logical favorite: “I have no idea how to beat Usyk, but Tyson Fury is a very intelligent fighter. He has intelligent people in the corner, but from an IQ level, he is right there. Unfortunately, so is Oleksandr Usyk, especially when he has won the first fight, they will still be on Oleksandr Usyk. My heart wants to see a Tyson Fury win … I would like to see him do it, but I see him as the underdog in this fight.”
Hearn’s comments emerged after Fury confirmed a potential trilogy with Usyk, contingent on him winning the next rematch.
