Portugal beat Robert Lewandowski’s Poland (1-3). Cristiano Ronaldo was the leader and personality of Portugal as he scored again and extended his tally to 906 to confirm his side’s dominance in the group stage of the Nations League.

In the Polish capital, the locals were all out, but it didn’t take long for Spain’s Roberto Martinez-led side to gain complete control of the ball to certify another victory that would extend their winning total on the tour. Three games, nine points.

A shot against Cristiano’s crossbar was the first Portuguese threat, and in the 26th minute Bruno Fernandes took a header from Ruben Neves and served it to Bernardo Silva, who fired first into the back of the net.

And in the 37th minute, a highly inspired Rafael Liao started from midfield, eluded several defenders and fired a shot at the far post, where Cristiano Ronaldo scored his second goal of the tournament and the 906th of his career.

The match saw a versatile Christian who many times left his place at the heart of the attack to occupy the wings and drop back to help out in defence.

At the other end of the pitch, Robert Lewandowski had Poland’s best chance in the first 45 minutes, but full-back Nuno Mendes made a “radical” goal save.

Portugal, in control, slowed down in the second half and Poland reduced the deficit in the 78th minute when Inter Milan’s Piotr Zielinski combined with Urbanski to score.

Portuguese misery and Polish hopes faded in the 88th minute when Bednarek intercepted a cross from Nuno Mendes Jota and put the ball into his own goal.

Before the end, with the score so favourable, Martínez brought on Mallorcan Samu Costa, who was making his debut for the Portuguese senior team.

The Portuguese will now travel to Glasgow where they face Scotland next Tuesday, the same day Poland host Luka Modric’s Croatia.
