Shakur Stevenson said today that 2025 will be his “the greatest year ever” suggesting he believes he will finally get a chance to fight Gervonta Davis.
Stevenson’s frail hands could destroy any chance of 2025 being his biggest, and it could be his worst year. He came from hand surgery, and has had problems with his hands for some time. It’s almost like them made of glass and not designed to fight at 135.
2025 Fights
He had seen the interview of his promoter Eddie Hearn today in which he said that Shakur will fight these three in 2025:
- Floyd Schofield: *Already set for February 22nd
- Guglielmo Zepeda: Attempts
- Gervonta Davis: It will require a huge offer from His Excellency.
That may not happen, though, and he’ll be happy for whoever Hearn can scratch up for him. If Tank and Zepeda decline, Hearn may have to find someone who can. He has a keen eye for scanning the landscape, and there are possibilities as long as Shakur is open-minded.
Andy Cruz and Richardson Hitchin would be excellent options if Tank or Zepeda choose not to fight Stevenson. It would help if Shakur was willing to move up to 140 for a fight because there are endless possibilities in that weight class.
The New Jersey native is big enough to compete at light welterweight, but he is underpowered for that weight class. Even at 126, Shakur lacked power and was consistent with the decision victory.
Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) should entertain fans with his title defense against Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs) on February 22. This fight will be widely watched by the other promoters of the stars, who will decide if they feel that Stevenson is worthy of matching their fighters against him.
In Shakur’s last two fights against Artem Harutyunyan and William Zepeda, people saw that it wasn’t worth it for Zepeda or Tank to fight. Stevenson was booed from both fights, and the fans headed for the exits, not wanting to see him run around the ring.
Stevenson is locked in the 28th; usually, fighters cannot change their style from that age. If they are a runner, they cannot magically transform themselves with training and willpower to become funny. I know what I know at this point.
Shakur’s prediction
2025 is going to be my BIGGEST YEAR EVER!!
— Shakur Stevenson (@ShakurStevenson) December 12, 2024
“Shakur is taking it personally because they’re competing with each other in terms of performance,” coach Greg Hackett told YSM Sports Media that Shakur Stevenson was upset about reacting to Tank Davis saying he got “nothing ” during his professional career.
“Tank gives people what they want (knockouts). So, Shakur’s mad. ‘You really think you can beat me just because you knock those guys out?’ Tank’s like, ‘What are you doing?’ You’re standing there talking about fighting me. You can’t even get rid of them. I put these boys to sleep. The tank is where he has a ball now.”
“Kid Austin is not ready for Shakur Stevenson. Shakur is a master boxer. He’s a lot stronger than my kid. I like Kid Austin, don’t get me wrong,” Bullet Cromwell told YSM Sports Mediasaying that Floyd Schofield is not ready for Shakur Stevenson in their fight on February 22.
His Excellency Turki Alalshikh should make them an offer that they cannot refuse to make them agree to a fight with Stevenson if they are not reluctant to deal with the rush and whistles from the fans. With all the lightweights in the division, why would Turki waste money on Shakur when he could set up more compelling matchups involving these fighters that made Tank or Zepeda:
– Edwin De Los Santos
– Raymond Muratalla
– Abdullah Mason
– Eduardo ‘Sugar’ Nunez
– Emanuel Navarrete
– Isaac Cruz
– Keyshawn Davis
“Shakur is an Olympic silver medalist. He should be a gold medalist. When you look at styles, he’s not going to catch Shakur for nothing. The fight I want to see is Shakur and Tank. If I don’t see this, I don’t I don’t care to see him fight anybody,” said Cromwell.
“Tank won’t be able to hit Shakur with certain things, and Shakur can’t afford to be hit by Tank.
