Deok No Yun (8-2, 6 KOs), 28, defended his WBO Asia Pacific super middleweight title for the first time today in Japan against ‘Muhammad’ Tyson Koki (17-5-3, 14 KOs) at Korakuen Hall from Tokyo, in a fight scheduled for 12 rounds. It all culminated in a vibrant first round.
Tyson Koki was dropped early by Deok No Yun with a right hook and the referee almost ran out the protection count. Finally, Koki pulled up and when the fight resumed Deok rushed in to try to finish off his ‘touched’ rival quickly. He managed to get him to the corner and started throwing combinations. Koki absorbed some blows, but he wasn’t going to give in without trying at least once.
He threw a left hook that struck Deok No Yun, who even suffered convulsions lying on the canvas. In combat sports, sometimes you have to be cautious even in moments of dominance. Closing a fight can backfire, and if not, ask Anthony Joshua.
