Heavyweight contender Justis Huni (12-0, 7 KOs) scored an easy second-round TKO over Shaun Potgieter (10-2, 7 KOs) Wednesday night on the undercard of Jai Opetaia vs. David Nyika at the Gold Coast Convention Center, Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia.

Huni’s power display

Huni, 25, hurt South African Potgieter with a looping right hand to the head in the second round. He then landed several heavier blows, and referee Phil Austin stepped in and stopped the contest. The stoppage time was at 0:33 of the second round.

The Australian, Huni, looked slow but powerful with his right hand. He didn’t have to worry about anything coming back from Potgieter, which was kind of lucky for him. It would be interesting to know why Potgieter was chosen for Huni as he did not look fit and looked quite old.

Huni had really struggled to beat Kevin Lerena last year in March and was lit up by him during their 10 round fight. He barely won that fight. Tonight was more about giving Huni a softer opponent for him to look good on.

It is too early to know how far Huni can go in the sport. You have to be ranked high enough for a world title to get a good payday. He doesn’t seem ready to fight the big dogs in the division, like IBF champion Daniel Dubois.

“The more active I am, the better I will be. I have some injuries to heal, but as soon as possible, I will be back in the ring,” said Justis Huni. DAZN following his second-round clash with Shaun Potgieter on Wednesday night.

“I will leave it to my team. So far they have done a good job with me. I believe I can go all the way.”

It would be nice to see Justis take on Moses Itauma. That would be a fun fight between the two hard punchers. They are both similar with the way they move on slow feet, and are easy to hit.

“This guy is almost there. You have another potential heavyweight champion in Justis Huni. He is top 15 in three leading bodies,” said Eddie Hearn. “The strength and conditioning team did a great job. The speed is back.

“Confidence is back. As he said, he will go through a small injury. You will see him again in a few months. A massive 2025 for Justis Huni.
