Lboxer from Puerto Lumbreras Mary Romero lost to the American Rianna Rios in Washington in the fight for one of the international belts of the World Boxing Association (WBA).
The three-time European super bantamweight champion debuted in the country where any result is magnified, with a record of 10 wins and 5 losses and was surpassed by a rival who has accumulated a total of eight victories. The Spaniard fell by unanimous decision on points by a double 78-73 and 79-72.
Romero, who turns 39 on August 1 and weighs 53.2 kilos, started the fight well and dominated the Texan, 29 years old and 53 kilos, at the beginning, but the judges saw that the fight was clearly decided in favor of the local team, especially after the Lumbrera player was penalized with a point for a maneuver in which the referee understood that she used her arms to lower her opponent’s head.
