Benavidez: “I’m afraid of Morrell!”

David Benavidez is still convinced that he has David Morrell “fear” of him because of the hard push he gave him during his media training session on December 17th to promote his February 1st fight.

“The Mexican Monster” uses fear to promote the fight, and he often talks about it in his interviews, saying that he sees it in Morrell.

This focus on fear is pointless because it won’t stop Morrell from throwing punches on February 1st. You can tell by looking at Benavidez that he is worried about this fight. There are millions at stake for him.

Benavidez’s fear projection

Morrell wrestled two-time Cuban gold medalist Julio Cesar La Cruzand he didn’t seem afraid. That guy is a better fighter than Benavidez by a mile.

It seems to be important to him to have Morrell scared. If Benavidez believed in himself, he would not focus so much on seeing fear in the Cuban. The fact that he didn’t want to fight Morrell for two solid years is an indication that he was the one living in fear.

“I scared him. I’m sure he’s scared of me 100%. I’m going to fight him on February 1st,” David Benavidez told Bet On Yourself. YouTube channel, talking about David Morrell.

“If I could sit on my fists, I would have that guy out of there,” Benavidez said of his last opponent, Oleksandr Gvozdyk, who he beat last year on June 15. “It’s a big part of why I’m doing this fight (winning the WBA ‘regular’ lightweight title from Morrell).

“Also, another part is I’m going to go out there and shut this guy down. I’m going to show the world what I’m going to do, and I’m going to beat David Morrell in front of everybody. If he beats the better than the best, the money will come. What matters to me is the respect you get from the people, and the money will come on top of that,” said Benavidez.

The bit of Benavidez that can not sit on his fists is discussing being injured during his fight against Oleksandr Gvozdyk on June 15 in his debut at 175. He stated after the fight that he fought with many injuries .

It didn’t look like Benavidez was hurt, but one can understand why he mentions his ailments. He was terrible in that fight, which should have been scored as a 12 round draw.

The judges gave the decision to Benavidez, but it looked 100% like he didn’t do enough to win. Therefore, his mention of injuries is now permanently understandable. It’s called “damage control.”

False bravado

“David Morrell is a good fighter. The Cuban school of boxing, they are technical fighters. The thing about me is that I have a lot of experience. I have been in the ring with many great champions, not only in fighting, but in sparring. I have the dog in me. I just go there and activate it,” said Benvidez.

The way the “Mexican Monster” is talking, he will try to knock Morrell out, hoping he can walk through his shots to knock him down or win a grueling decision. Benavidez is suited for Morrell with his emphasis on combination punching, which will leave him open for the Cuban’s counter-punches.

It’s a risky way to fight Morrell because he’s not an old, undersized fighter like many of the guys Benavidez fought when he was a 168 champion against smaller guys.
