If there’s one thing that sets Antonio Briceno apart, it’s his candor. On the field and on the microphones, ‘Pollo’ is leading the way, and even though he’s signed to Toluca now, he doesn’t hesitate to express his love for Chivas.
The new ‘Red Devils’ player made two things very clear:
1. He celebrates every time he makes a good sweep
2. Keep thinking about Chivas even when you are in Toluca
A lot of questions have been asked about the way the 30-year-old defender sometimes celebrates his tackles as goals, but that is part of his passionate way on the field, as his role is to protect his area.
“You see the champions, don’t you? They celebrate all the time. In Toluca, in a Torito or a doubles area, if I win a sweep, that’s my Champions League. I live like this. I try to put myself in this way, just like you, and that’s how I am on the court. Not going to change, no doubt. My essence is going to be the same, I’m not going to change,” he told FOX Sports México He explained in the interview.
The Atlas youth player reaffirmed what Guadalajara is all about. Even the Mexico Under-17 champion in 2011 promised that his move to Toluca would be a boon to the ‘herd’ and so he would get cash in his coffers.
“I love and love Chivas, but cycles end, it’s good if I have an economic advantage for the club, someone has to have the maturity to stand aside… In the end it’s my turn but it’s not goodbye but see you soon, I know one day I’ll be back, maybe a Not as a player, but in another capacity,” predicted Briseno, who spent five-and-a-half years at the Red and White club.
Now, Toluca hopes that same confidence and courage to speak up will be reflected on the field.
