Emma Hayes surprised after leaving Alex Morgan out of the call for the Olympic Games.
The US National Team coach included 22 players on the list: 18 permanent players and four substitutes. Regarding his choices, Hayes said:
“Making an Olympic roster is a great privilege and honor and there is no denying that it was an extremely competitive process between the players and that there were difficult decisions, especially considering how hard they have all worked over the last 10 months.”
Those summoned have appeared in various competitions with the ‘Stars and Stripes’ team, eight of them already have experience in the summer fair, as they appeared in Tokyo 2020; 10 were part of the squad that participated in the 2024 World Cup, and four will compete for the first time in international competition.
Regarding her absence from the list, Morgan, who has two Olympic medals (2012 and 2020), said through her Instagram account that she was “disappointed” at not being able to represent her country in Paris 2024. However, he assured that “he will support the team and encourage them along with the rest of the country.”
