David Benavidez says that David Morrell complained about the drug test for his February 1st fight, and he believes that he does not want to be tested by VADA.
Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) the interim WBA lightweight champion is suspicious, saying that the “regular” WBA champion Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) may be worried “something may come out” in one of his tests .
Benavidez plays the PED card
Some fans see the complaints of Benavidez as he is building the first bases for a PED sorry before it’s time to blame a potential loss on Morrell for potential steroid use.
Only since Benaivdez mentions steroids during the build-up, people see a victory of Morrell with suspicion. Morrell wouldn’t even need to test positive for PEDs for people to believe he was using because of the association of steroids with his name during the build-up.
Benavidez would receive less criticism from fans, and his stock wouldn’t drop so badly if he believed Morrell was ugly. Never mind that Morrell never tested positive for a steroid. Benavidez’s mention during the interview led me to believe that Morrell was using PEDS, and would have his victory.
“When he fought, you go see the people he fought. They said they did VADA, and they didn’t make David Morrell do VADA,” said David Benavidez to MillCity Boxing. “There were two different fighters who did this.
“He tried to pull the same shit on me because we’re 13 weeks into the game. When I fought Caleb Plant, we started trying 14 weeks out. Boo Boo Andrade 14 weeks out. How is this guy (Morrell) coming into his biggest fight ever, and should not do VADA, and is already accused of using steroids.
“I’m not saying he’s on steroids or anything like that, but once you don’t try to take the VADA test, shit looks weird. Also, he says he’s a lab rat because he’s been tested. That’s what it is. This is pure boxing we do VADA every week or every other week.
It would be better if Benavidez didn’t discuss PEDs before the fight, because it comes off as if he’s already planning an excuse if things don’t work out in his favor in the fight with Morrell.
“If you don’t like it, you’re probably doing something, or you’re probably a little worried that something might come out in these VADA tests,” Benavidez said. I, I have been tested more than anyone in VADA, and this is facts. I have been tested more than 30 times, and I have never complained. I never said I was a lab rat.
“This guy (Morrell) has just been tested three times, and he says he’s a lab rat. Go watch the fights and look at the people accusing him. Me, I’ve never been accused of taking steroids. So, when you see the press conference, as soon as I said, “Steroids, you guys didn’t want to try,” that’s when Luis DeCubas got up and started talking to the ***. Then they walked away.
“So, I don’t know. You be the judge of that. I pointed things out, but you guys don’t play me like an idiot. If there are VADA texts, then let’s do it, and let’s go clean boxing,” he said Benavidez.
