Boxxer is planning to bring Frazer Clarke back from his first defeat in the tune-up in April.
The heavyweight boxer lost for the first time in October. When he was spectacularly and worryingly stopped by Fabio Vardley seven months after they fought to an entertaining draw.
Instead Clarke rose to prominence, winning the British and Commonwealth titles and becoming the heavyweight boxer the stable boxer lacked. The nature of the knockout combined with his 33 years makes his career in doubt.
Promoters are well aware that his age – Clark has fought 10 times professionally and won Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020 – means time is not on his side. But it will focus on less dangerous competition before trying to get him back to what they call “the big time.”
“I have talked with him. He’s in great spirit,” Ben Shalom told BoxingScene. “He came back to the gym on January 10. I asked, ‘Do you feel anything?’ He said, ‘No.’ Incredible recovery. Both physically and mentally But we won’t really know. Until we see him back in that ring.
“He is a fan favorite. And it’s someone that people will be watching for many years to come. He’ll be back in April – a date we already know. willingly His recovery will be good. He’s going to have a great camp. And we will see him return with a new sense of motivation.
“He is not a child. But if I’m being honest, After what happened and what I saw I wanted to make sure he was okay. And I want to see that he’s okay. And I don’t think he’s going directly into one of the biggest fights. Because I think that would be irresponsible. His safety must come first. He will want to have a fight once. I want to make sure that Look where he is. See where his level is. Look at where his fitness is. See where his mind is. Then he will go straight into the big moment.”
Wardley is reportedly set to fight Cuban Lenier Pero next. When asked if Shalom would fight back Clark’s first fight beyond 10 rounds and he replied: “We will see.
“Let’s see how the camp goes. It will be a test. But I want to know where he is.”
