Signed by Dominican Juan Soto $765 million and a total of 15 years by the New York MetsUS media reported this Sunday that it represents the biggest deal in sports history.
Soto’s contract is more than 700 million over 10 years, which Japan’s Shohei Ohtani signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year, and represented a new record in terms of salary in the sports world.
Soto played last season with the New York Yankees and will now star for the other team in the Big Apple, the Mets.
According to ESPN Network, Soto’s contract does not have deferred payments like Ohtani’s and has clauses that could raise more than $800 million.
You also have the option to exit the contract after 5 years.
The Yankees tried by all means to keep the most sought-after free agency player in the Major Leagues and, according to data from the MLB.com portal, offered him 760 million over 16 years, but fell in this fight against the Mets.
Soto played with the Yankees in the World Series, where they narrowly lost to Ohtani’s Dodgers.
Now he joins a Mets that also features Puerto Rican standout Francisco Lindor and last year’s National League Finals loss against the Dodgers.
