The Ronaldo’s number 9 shirt in the 1998 France-Brazil World Cup Final A lock of Diego Armando Maradona’s hair will stand out among more than 200 sports items to be auctioned in Paris on December 15 by the house of Aguttes.

The auction house hopes to fetch between 40,000 and 80,000 euros for the shirt worn by Ronaldo in the final, where Brazil lost to hosts France (3-0).

“He wore two that day (July 12, 1998). This one he wore in the second half, probably with some stains when Fabian Barthes ran over him,” says François Thierry, a sports expert at Agutz, regarding one of the most legendary photos of that final.

Thierry points out some of the flaws in some of the finishes – which he maintains – have been shown to be the legendary Brazilian forward’s shirt, signed by him.

The shirt is one of the most controversial episodes in the recent history of Brazilian football, with Ronaldo suffering a psychological crisis that stopped him from playing a day after the fight.

Maradona’s legacy continues to attract investors and sports fans alike. One of the most attention-grabbing items was the Argentinian star’s 3- to 4-centimeter lock of hair cut by his friend Stefano Ceci.

“This lock was minted in Dubai in 2018,” explained Aguttes sports expert, who expects the price to be between 35,000 and 50,000 euros.
