Lamont Roach’s Blueprint For Upset: Take advantage of Davis’ early struggles

Lamont Roach Jr. says WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis will be making a big mistake if he allows him to jump to a head start on March 1.

Roach’s Keys to Victory

Technical super featherweight champion Roach Jr. (25-1-1, 10 KOs) says if he takes the early rounds, Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) will be in a tough position of needing to chase him down to play. catch-up to score a knockout, and he didn’t let that happen.

One thing people should note is the fact that Tank has been outplayed by many of his recent flawed opponents. These are not talented fighters that Tank has fought against, but they have given him tricks against him and put him in a hole where he needs to land KOs in order to win.

Unlike Gervonta’s last five opponents, Roach won’t try to pull it off. Therefore, it will be much more difficult for Davis to connect with one of his backup KO shots that he is used to scoring to turn his fights around.

If Tank is going to win, he has to go on the hunt and use his skills because catching Roach in a moment of recklessness will not be simple.

Davis vs. Roach will headline a 12-round PBC fight on Prime Video PPV on March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The fight was originally scheduled for December 14th at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, but due to venue issues, Davis-Roach had to be moved to March 1st.

“He’s accurate. He hits people on the button. That’s one thing he does. I noticed that he has pinpoint accuracy when it comes to hitting people in their weak point,” said Lamont Roach to Luke Thomastalking about what makes Gervonta Davis so good.

“Make him uncomfortable,” Roach said of what he plans to do against Tank Davis. “He showed that he’s durable in the Pitbull fight because he had one hand, and he was still defending, he wasn’t getting hit a lot, but it was uncomfortable, because Pitbull was throwing some heat at him. He showed good defense in that fight .

“Pitbull is a solid volume puncher that he fought. He did outstanding,” Roach said of how Gervonta did against a fighter with a high work rate, Isaac Cruz. “In the last four rounds, he’s had a hand. If there’s a durable volume puncher in front of him, I think he’s going to be the same as he did against Pitbull, unless somebody catches him .

Tank, 30, is precise with his counter-punching when facing guys who throw wild punches and don’t think about what comes back. We saw that in his fights with these guys:

– Frank Martin
– Ryan Garcia
– Hector Garcia
– Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero
Mario Barrios
– Leo Santa Cruz

Tank would also have knocked out Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, but was fighting with one hand after suffering an injury earlier. The commonality of the last six knockouts that David has scored is that his opponents have all been wild and not technical. Roach is not going to leave openings like those one-dimensional fighters.

The first rounds are crucial

“If he wants to give the first few rounds against me, it’s stupid. He took it, said Roach. “The next thing you’ll see will probably be a drastic change in his game plan. It’s obviously something he has to make up for. Now, it will either be a chase or a knockout. I won’t let that happen.

“My best advice for him is that he better not give me any first time. It’s going to be a long night for you, my friend,” Roach said of his advice for Tank.
