Israel Vazquez, one of Mexico’s most famous boxers and three-time super bantamweight world champion, has died at the age of 46. Born in Mexico City, Vazquez was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago. Since 2018, he has been suffering from systemic sclerosis and his health has not been good.
Vazquez, whose aggressive and charismatic style earned him the nickname ‘Magnifico’, is best remembered for his four epic fights with compatriot Rafael Marquez. The two boxers faced each other four times between 2007 and 2010, making it one of the most brutal and exciting rivalries in boxing.
