Conor Benn says Mario Barrios is “ready” to be the next challenger for the WBC welterweight title.
Benn is preparing to fight again in 2025, close to doing so. At the beginning of November Independent National Anti-Doping Commission It has lifted his suspension for two failed drug tests in 2022.
He also faces Chris Eubank Jr., who appears to remain his most likely opponent. But in targeting the 29-year-old Barrios, it shows that his long-term rival isn’t the only fighter in his sights.
“Hey Barrios, I hope everything is fine,” Benn said in Spanish in a video posted on social media. “I am ready for this fight. I’m sure it will be a great night for the fans.
“Here in London or there in America? I’m ready.” I’m coming to prepare. Notify my team if you are, let’s go.”
Benn, 28, last fought in February. When he defeated Peter Dobson, his successful fight in September 2023 against Rodolfo Orozco was his first since April 2022 when he defeated Chris van Hier. Garden victory over Van Hereden also marks his latest victory in the UK. Benn then failed two drug tests. This led to the abortion of the match in frustration with Eubank Jr. and a suspension that mostly kept him out of the ring.
He intends to travel to Hamburg in December to attend the WBC meeting, where he may be able to boost his hopes of fighting Barrios. Barrios fought to a draw with Abel. Ramos at the beginning of November
