The WBO has ordered a final title eliminator fight between #1 Arnold Barboza Jr. and #2 Jack Catterall to decide a mandatory Challenger for 140 lb champion Teofimo Lopez.
There is no word yet on whether Catterall’s promoter, Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn, will agree to this fight with the undefeated Barboza Jr. (31-0, 11 KOs).
It’s another hurdle Catterall must overcome to get another world title. He failed in his first attempt, losing to Josh Taylor via split decision in 12 rounds on February 26, 2022.
It would be tough for Catterall (30-1, 13 KOs), who is a pure boxer and hasn’t fought a skilled fighter on Barboza Jr.’s level.
Catterall is coming off a one-sided 12-round unanimous decision victory over former two-time welterweight champion Regis Prograis on October 26.
Jack, 31, has recent wins over these four fighters:
– King Prograis
– Josh Taylor
– Jorge Linares
– Daryl Foley
