Canelo vs. Jake Paul: “1000% it’s going to happen”

Jake Paul’s manager Nakisa Bidarian says a fight between him and Canelo Alvarez “will have to happen” either this year or in 2025.

Bidarian is convinced that one of the State Commissions of the United States will sanction the fight of Canelo vs. Paul as a professional match, indicating that the match Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor was sanctioned when they fought in 2017.

Money Grab

According to Bidarian, the Canelo-Jake Paul fight will have three-minute rounds. It would be a lucrative fight. What is important is that the fight happens shortly before the 34-year-old Canelo (62-2-2, 39 KOs) loses to someone or his popularity declines.

It would be a disruptive type of matchup if it happened because boxing fans would be upset because of Jake Paul’s lack of credentials at the professional level. Losing to Tommy Fury, a British domestic level fighter, and beating the retired 58-year-old Mike Tyson is not enough for Jake to consider a fight against Canelo.

A fight between them would have a foregone conclusion and be seen as a take out money circus fight It’s one thing for the 27-year-old Jake to fight an older man like Mike Tyson, but the fans see him as a take up if he fought Canelo Alvarez.

No one would take the fight seriously without Jake beating a top-tier fighter at cruiserweight or someone dragged down from lightweight. With an estimated net worth of $250 million, Canelo is not bad for the money to be drawn into a fight with Jake Paul, which won’t do as well as some think unless the YouTuber beats a high-level fighter first.

Jake has to prove himself

For Jake to be seen as a credible opponent for Canelo, he needs at least one win over an active world-class fighter. Tommy Fury is not world class, and Jake lost to him.

Options for Jake to gain credibility

– Gilberto Ramirez
– Jai Opetaia
– Arthur Beterbiev
– Dmitri Bivol
– David Benavidez
– Noel Mikaelyan

Canelo’s reputation is already on a downward spiral as he hasn’t been in a big 50-50 level fight since his fight against Dmitry BIvol in 2022. Canelo has taken on safe opposition since then, winning his last five contests. He chose NOT to fight David Benavidez or David Morrell, and he chooses his opponents at this end of his career.

His last opponent, Edgar Berlanga, was embarrassingly bad, a fighter with no experience against quality opposition, who sold the fight as a Puerto Rico vs. Mexico match, even though he’s not from Puerto Rico . It was one a sad marketing trickand the fight has no entertainment value, with the 190+ Berlanga in survival mode for 12 one-sided turns. Canelo chose this guy and did nothing for his popularity. It showed that the Mexican star picks from the bottom of the barrel for his opponents.

“1000% Happening”

“As for Canelo Alvarez, 1000% this fight is going to happen. Whether it happens this year or next year, this is definitely on the roadmap for Jake Paul,” manager Nakisa Bidarian told talkSport Boxing . YouTube channel about a fight between Canelo Alvarez and Jake Paul destined to happen.

“Absolutely not two-minute rounds. Tell me who is the most important sanctioning body in America. What do you say it is?” said Bidarian when he said that none of the four sanctioning bodies in boxing would sanction a fight between Canelo and Jake Paul.

Canelo has not said if he will take the fight with Jake Paul, and it is unlikely that he will because of the reaction he would receive. Unless Jake is willing to face and beat one of the notable cruiserweights or light heavyweights, Canelo wouldn’t dare fight him because of the criticism he would receive.

Canelo’s price for the fight

Jake is not going to fight a top cruiserweight guy like Jai Opetaia because he is not that type of fighter. He is still a novice, bringing in audiences through his social media reach.

“If they do Mayweather vs. McGregor, why wouldn’t they do Canelo vs. Jake Paul,” said Bidarian, indicating that one of the State Commissions in the United States will sanction a fight between Canelo and Jake Paul, given that the Nevada Commission has sanctioned the fight of Floyd Mayweather Jr against MMA fighter Conor McGregor as a professional match, counting in the record books for their encounter on August 26. 2017.

Bidarian is right. One of the state commissions will sanction a fight between Canelo and Jake Paul, possibly Nevada or Texas, but this does not mean that the Mexican star agrees to the match. Canelo has some standards, and it’s understandable how the fans would react to this match if he agreed. However, if Canelo is offered a guarantee $100 million+he might be willing to put his pride aside to agree to this circus match.

The Mexican star would have had to offer him a huge guaranteed purse to even consider doing it, and that would be a risk for any organization that would have him.

McGregor had NEVER fought a boxing match before and entered the Mayweather fight with a 0-0 record and no experience. The result was predictable, with Mayweather dominating the novice McGregor before knocking him out in the 10th round.

A heavyweight circus act

“He may at some point watch what someone has called a ‘freak show’. He may see himself doing exciting and disruptive things, like fighting an Anthony Joshua or a Daniel Dubois, but this is not in his current path .He (Jake) will campaign at cruiserweight, and Canelo, to my knowledge, is walking at 190,” Bidarian said.

If Jake moved up to heavyweight and tried to beat someone like Filip Hrgovic, Agit Kabayel, or Martin Bakole, a fight between him and Joshua or Dubois would be taken seriously. Since Jake won’t buy into this idea, he will make a joke from AJ or Dubois that he will fight.

Anthony Joshua and Dubois will almost certainly agree to a fight with Jake for the money. If Joshua was willing to fight 0-1 Francis Ngannou, he would gladly accept a match against Jake. Dubois has already reached out to Jake for a fight. It is unclear whether the IBF will sanction the bout for his heavyweight title.

It doesn’t matter what any state commission would say. It would be the IBF accepting a match involving the unranked Jake Paul challenging Dubois for his title. I don’t see that happening. The fight may happen, but probably not for Dubois’ title.
