Keyshawn Davis (12-0, 8 KOs) says WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis has “no choice but to fight” now following his second-round KO victory over light welterweight Gustavo Lemos (29- 2, 19 KOs) on Friday night. in a show promoted by Top Rank on ESPN+ at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia.

Keyshawn, not known for being a big puncher, caught the wild Argentinian Lemos with a perfect counter right in the second round that put him by the seat of his pants.

Gustavo was perfect for Keyshawn

– No hand speed
– Move forward slowly
– Raw skills
– Throw wild hay

Lemos, 28, was easy prey after that bout and was dropped two more times by Keyshawn before referee Raul Caiz Jr called the contest off at 1:59 of the second round. The punches that Keyshawn landed weren’t huge, but it was a case of Lemos not recovering from the first knockdown.

The win for #3 WBC and #3 WBO-ranked Keyshawn makes the WBO mandatory for the champion Denys Berinchyk, who will probably be next for him. Top Rank is not likely to be able to negotiate a fight against Tank Davis anytime soon or ever.

I’d be surprised if Keyshawn ever has a fight against him unless he becomes a star, and he might not be able to make the jump before being forced to move on because of his size. He didn’t look much smaller than the 155 lb. Lemos in the ring, which suggests he’s not long for the division.

Knockout came as a surprise

“I wasn’t thinking of stopping Lemos. I thought it was going to be very tough, durable, and we were going to fight like my last fight and have a spectacular performance,” said Keyshawn Davis to the media following his victory over Gustavo Lemos on Saturday night in Norfolk, Virginia.

It wasn’t a huge shock that Keyshawn defeated Lemos because with the way he was throwing wild punches, leaving himself open every time, it was only a matter of time.

Within the first 30 seconds, I could see why Keyshawn chose Lemos as his opponent rather than Andy Cruz or Raymond Muratalla. Lemos was not a threat to beat him and was the ideal opponent for him to look spectacular. It was well checked before being chosen by Keyshawn.

“I took him down in the second round; I knew when I took him down the first time it was over. I already knew it was over, and I just closed the show,” Keyshawn continued. “

“The businessman” believes he can hurt Tank

“The only person he doesn’t like is him,” Keyshawn said Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis doesn’t like being called by him. “It’s a little strange, but now he has no choice but to fight me. The fans want him to fight me after what I did tonight against a guy who is bigger than him.”

Tank doesn’t react well to being pressured for fights by needy contenders, and Keyshawn fails to learn from the many other fighters who have used the same approach to try and get a chance to face him.

The only one who was lucky enough to call Tank was Ryan Garcia, but that was because he had 12 million Instagram followers and a Hollywood star aura about him. Keyshawn is having none of it. He is just a man who is popular in Norfolk, Virginia and is known for his interviews where he brags about himself. That sums up Keyshawn.

What Keyshawn needs is to continue to take down his opponents, look good, and be more willing to stay and fight instead of moving like we saw tonight.

The negative is in Keyshawn’s performance tonight

  • Too clinch
  • Move a lot: Don’t stand and fight
  • Using illegal stiff arms
  • Do not change in your pocket

“If you touch it, guess what happens? Talk about that. Everybody wants to talk about, ‘Keyshawn, what if you touch it?’ What if you touch it? Yeah, okay,” Keyshawn said.
