Jaime Munguia vs. Bruno Surace In Negotiations For December 14 In Tijuana

Former junior middleweight champion Jaime Munguia is negotiating a fight against undefeated Bruno Surace for December 14th at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana.

If the fight goes ahead, it would be the third this year for the 28-year-old Munguia (44-1, 35 KOs), who defeated Erik Bazinyan by eleventh-round KO on September 20 and lost at super middleweight unified champion Canelo Alvarez on May 4 by a 12-round unanimous decision.

The Frenchman Surace (25-0-2, 4 KOs) is not ranked in the top 15 at middleweight and is not known by fans. He was fighting the dark opposition in France during his eight-year career; unsurprisingly, it failed to receive a top-tier rating. This fight with Munguia will give Surace a chance to get some recognition.

The Old Ways Returning

Munguia’s promoters had to do some real digging to find Surace, 26, but at least he’s facing a fighter with an undefeated record, even if it’s full of unknown opposition.

This is the kind of soft matchmaking that Munguia’s promoters have done for him virtually his entire career, allowing him to rack up 44 wins before suffering his first loss in his cash-out fight against Canelo. Munguia faced weak opposition for more than a decade before finally getting Canelo’s payday, and now he’s back to what got him into that fight.

On the undercard, former two-division world champion Luis ‘Pantera’ Nery (35-2, 27 KOs) will return to the ring for the first time since being knocked out in the sixth round by undisputed champion super -rooster Naoya Inoue in May. 6 in Tokyo, Japan.

Salvador Rodriguez broke the news about Munguia-Surace being in the work.

If Munguia wins this fight, he will have the option to face former world super middleweight title challenger Edgar Berlanga, who is coming off a wide 12-round unanimous decision over Canelo on September 14th.

Munguia wanted to have a rematch with Canelo. Still, the chances of that ever happening are slim, especially if you’re fighting no-name opposition like Surace and Bazinyan. If Munguia wants the second fight with Canelo, he must beat these types of fighters:

– Diego Pacheco
– Osleys Iglesias
– Christian Mbilli
– David Morrell
– Jermall Charlo

Even if Munguia never gets a rematch with Canelo, he can still make good money if he can get his hands on one of the Super Middleweight titles.
