Ggreat evening that takes place this week at the MGM Grand Garden Arena de Las Vegas in which there will be two clear protagonists. On the one hand there is Gervonta Daviswho faces his first fight after leaving prison a little less than a year ago, and on the other hand, one of the most spectacular boxers of the moment returns to the ring, David Benavidez.

‘Tank’ Davis faces Frank Martin (Prime Video) for the WBA lightweight world title and he has absolutely no doubt that he will emerge victorious from his duel against ‘The Ghost’, undefeated like him. The truth is Gervonta is the favorite without a doubt, given his history in the ring. His criminal history is something else.

Let us remember that he was released from prison in July of last year, after serve 44 days in a detention center after a judge ruled that violated the terms of his house arrest. All of this came from further back, from a car accident that he caused in 2020 and from which he fled on foot. The fact is that Davis was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest at the home of his coach, Calvin Ford, after pleading guilty on four charges stemming from the aforementioned incident, in which he injured four people, including a pregnant woman. Instead of going to Ford’s house to serve his sentence, Davis moved to a luxury hotel and then to a new housewithout permission from the Maryland Prosecutor’s office, because he said there was not enough space in his coach’s house.

Now he gets back into the ring after his victory against Ryan García in 2023. “I’ve been locked up a long time, so I want a great performance. This guy [Martin] It doesn’t bring anything that I haven’t seen. He’s only worried about not getting knocked out, he’s not worried about winning. “His moves are just fake footwork because he’s a so-so, mediocre boxer,” the Baltimore boxer commented. Davis was also asked about what he feels after knocking out a rival: “It’s better than sex, for sure”, he expressed. Tank accumulates 27 KOs in 29 fights.

Martin, for his part, will try to surprise: “I appreciate ‘Tank’ giving me the opportunity to kick his ass. He just hasn’t gotten in the ring with anyone like me.”said the left-hander from Detroit.

And we don’t forget David ‘The Mexican Monster’ Benavidezwho will make his light heavyweight debut against the former world champion Oleksandr ‘The Nail’ Gvozdykin a confrontation for the WBC interim title. This will be the co-feature fight, with Benavídez trying to make merits to be able to go for the absolute titles that give him star status in the near future. Also known as ‘The Red Flag’, he is one of the boxers called to become one of the media stars of the noble art.
