Schofield (17-0, 12 KOs) is ready to challenge WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis for his title next. Tank should have chosen him for his next title defense rather than super featherweight Lamont Roach.

Giron (20-3, 13 KOs) comes into Saturday’s fight on a three-fight winning streak since losing to Jose Matias Romero by a 10-round unanimous decision last year in June in a competitive fight. The 25-year-old Giron has a pressure style that will force Schofield to adapt because it won’t be one of the easy fights he’s used to.

Giron also lost to Giovanni Cabrera in 2022, losing a 10-round unanimous decision. Cabrera is the most notable opponent Giron has faced, and he came up short.

Schofield Wants Title Shot

“Me being number 2 with the WBA is a dream come true. I’ve worked my whole life for this. So when an opportunity presents itself, I’ll be more than ready,” said Floyd Schofield Fight Hub TV on the ramp for a world title shot against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis.

It is not likely that the PBC will choose to match Tank Davis against the Schofield, promoted by the Golden Boy, because it is not with the same network, and it does not fit the description of the typical opponent that the Baltimore native has been confronted throughout his career. If Schofield shows some vulnerability against Giron and just wins, this could increase his chances of being picked by Tank’s management.

“Yes I am. I’m dedicating my life to this sport. I’m not afraid of anyone,” Schofield said when asked if he’s ready to step up to the next level after his fight against Tellez on Saturday night. “Yes, I am (ready to challenge WBA lightweight champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis).

“I’m training hard. I don’t think anyone is afraid of him. I should have had the fight (against Tank) before Lamont Roach, but if we go through Rene, we’ll see who Golden Boy has next. Who knows? If the opportunity arises present next year, we will be more than ready.”

DAZN Main Undercard

In the main support attack, super average contender Bektemir Melikuziev (14-1, 10 KOs) will beat David Stevens (14-1, 10 KOs) in a 10-round WBA 168-lb title eliminator. The winner of this fight will be the mandatory challenger for champion Canelo Alvarez.

IBF Women’s Flyweight Champion Gabriela Fundora (14-0, 6 KOs) fights WBA, WBC, and WBO unified champion Gabriela Alaniz (15-1, 6 KOs) in a 10-round undisputed contest.

Super average outlook Darius Fulghum (12-0, 10 KOs) faces Christopher Pearson (17-4-1, 12 KOs) in a 10-round contest. The 28-year-old Fulghum is a big puncher with a lot of potential. However, at 28, Fulghum will have to move at a faster pace if he wants to take advantage of the time he has left in his career.

Welterweight prospect Joel Iriarte (4-0, 4 KOs) fights Xavier Madrid (5-5, 2 KOs) in a 10-round contest.
