Cruiserweight titleholder Gilberto Ramirez is thankful for the opportunity to fight as a uniter on November 16 alongside fellow beltman Chris Billum-Smith in Saudi Arabia.
“Performing Latino Night is an honor,” said Ramirez.
The fighters will face each other in Riyadh. This is where boxing has found its latest roots.
“It is a unique opportunity to connect with the Latino community and celebrate our culture through my performance,” said Ramirez. “The energy, passion and pride that comes with an event like this is something I feel very excited The night was made even more special by the mix of cultures. Especially here in Saudi Arabia. Which I also get a lot of inspiration from. It was a unique experience. And I am proud to represent both sides.”
Ramirez added that he hopes Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority and engineer of the Novemeber 16 Riyadh season card, will one day visit Ramirez’s hometown of. Mazatlan in Sinaloa, Mexico
“I am excited about what Turki Alalshikh and Riyadh Season are doing for boxing. Seeing the sport grow around the world with this level of support is inspiring. They are creating huge opportunities for fighters and fans, and I am optimistic about the future of boxing.
“I am also excited that the show will be shown on free TV. It allows me to reach a wider audience around the world. It’s a great opportunity for more people to see my journey and connect with what I do in the ring. There is a lot of exposure to the audience. And I am ready to perform for everyone to see.”
Ramirez, a 46-1 (30 KO) southerner, became the first Mexican to win the world super middleweight title in 2016, and he captured the cruiserweight title. in March with a victory over previously undefeated titleholder Arsene Gulamirian.
Billam-Smith from Bournemouth, England, is 20-1 (13 KO).
