O’Shaquie Foster will have a second chance against Robson Conceicao to reclaim his WBC super featherweight title this Saturday night. The fight will be on ESPN+ at the Turning Stone Resort Casino on November 2.

This fight could be a repeat of the previous one between them because both fighters are in their 30s and have established styles. Foster used his old dinosaur-era style, only occasionally throwing a punch and telling the judges to give him rounds.

The judges were most impressed by Conceicao’s constant work. He never stopped throwing and attacking. He had a classic Aaron Pryor style non-stop punches, and the judges loved it. Therefore, the decision was given.

Foster used this style in many of his fights against lesser opposition, but it was not effective when he fought Abraham Nova and Conceicao. The two go-getters slugged it out and exposed the weakness of the Mayweather-esque pothot style.

It can be defeated, like the Maginot line. They realized that the flaw in the potshot style that Foster adopted from Mayweather was that he can be overwhelmed with punches.

Foster (22-3, 12 KOs) lost to Conceicao (19-2-1, 9 KOs) by a 12-round split decision earlier this year on July 6. It was an excellent performance from 2016 Olympic gold medalist Conceicao, who overpowered the minimalist fighter Foster, wearing him down with strikes.

Conceicao outwitted him

Foster’s habit of just throwing jabs came back to haunt him in this fight as he was overwhelmed by clean landings and harder shots from the Brazilian Conceicao.

“He was gutted, fired up in some shifts where he was out there like a surgeon, picking his spots, not looking to waste anything,” Teddy Atlas told Probox TVThey talk because O’Shaquie Foster lost to Robson Conceicao in their previous fight on July 6th.

Atlas is correct. Conceicao overpowered Foster, and Brazil’s most experienced fighter defeated his minimalist fighting style. Unfortunately, Nothing will change in the rematch because Foster’s fighting style is rooted. He’s set in his ways and can’t change without breaking him as a fighter, which will likely result in him being beaten by fighters with busier styles.

“I wouldn’t say it was a Brinks robbery job because, to me, it wasn’t,” Atlas said of Conceicao’s win last July. “Foster was a surgeon. He doesn’t lose anything, but that can come back and bite him sometimes.”

New Solved Foster’s Style

Foster’s style was handled by Conceicao as he was in his previous fight against Abraham ‘Super’ Nova on February 16th earlier this year. This fight was a real steal because Nova deserved the win because he beat Foster badly in the second half, overwhelming him with punches. The ringside crowd at Madison Square Garden in New York booed the results, feeling that Nova should have won.

“The other guy (Conceicao) knew what he was doing. His work rate was more. Conceicao also landed clean and effective punches. He was reckless not to throw more punches,” Atlas said of Foster.

“You hit him with a punch, but you could have hit him with something else. There were a lot of dead spots with nothing. There’s more you could have done to be a better fighter,” Atlas said.
