In Friday’s tournament draw for the 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships, the 12 boxers who will compete for Team USA learned the identities of their first-round opponents and their respective paths to gold.
The tournament, which begins Friday and is scheduled to take place next Saturday at the Pueblo Convention Center in Pueblo, Colorado, will feature 10 weight classes in each of the men’s and women’s divisions.
To open the competition for Team USA, Joscelyn Olayo-Munoz of Las Cruces, New Mexico, fell to Chanchal Chaudary of India in the 48kg bout, while Shamiracle Hardaway of LaGrange, Georgia defeated Penelope Grochau of Germany in the 60 bout. kg. 4-1 to enter the medal round

Additionally, Lorenzo Patricio of Waianae, Hawaii will represent Team USA in the 50kg weight class (first round bye) and fight the winners of Seiya Nakayam of Japan and Bo Pig. Scott, Australia, Violet Lopez, Milwaukee (first round bye) will face Caitlyn Wise, England, 54kg, 70kg. Malachy Ross, Grandview, Missouri, has a bye and will meet the winner. Germany’s Festim Nimani and India’s Sumit Sumit Joseph Awinonya of Joliet. Illinois will face Connor Anderson from Australia in the 75 kg weight class; Elijah Lugo from Marietta, Georgia will face Christian Sarzilli from Italy in the 80 kg weight class; and the heavy weight class. The only Team USA fighter starting Tuesday was Dallas’ Mesiah Nimo, who received a first-round bye. He will face the winner of Simon Stojka Republic of the Czech Republic and Assylkhan Kosherbay of Kazakhstan in the 65kg weight class.
Cleveland’s Nevaeh Williams, who received a bye, will face the winner of the Netherlands’ Aaliyah Hoppema and New Zealand’s Renee Doul. Due to the bye, Williams is now in the medal round and will receive at least a bronze medal.
