IBF lightweight champion Vasily Lomachenko is considering retirement from the sport. Lomachenko had been in talks recently about a unification fight against WBA 135lb champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis before deciding to take the rest of the year off.

Mike Coppinger said X“There is a lot of talk that Lomachenko is going to retire.”

Did Tank intentionally age Lomachenko?

That destroys the plans of the Tank team to fight the famous Loma, who had a long professional and amateur career. Lomachenko previously called Gervonta Davis in 2017but the Baltimore native showed no interest for obvious reasons.

Lomachenko was on top of the world, and it would have been a nightmare for Tank to fight. Davis is a fighter who relies solely on his power and can easily be outboxed, even by fighters with marginal skills.

Instead of fighting him, Tank focused on lesser threats. He waited until 2024 before finally showing interest in facing Lomachenko. Some boxing fans believe that Gervonta intentionally waited at the age of Lomachenko. In other words, the younger Tank Davis waited until Lomachenko had aged before finally choosing to fight him, knowing that he would be beaten for him.

As an amateur, Lomachenko had 396 fights, losing only one. He has been in the sport much longer than many fighters. Celebrity Net Worth estimates that Lomachenko’s net worth is $8 million. So, not bad for the money. Lives in Odesa, Ukraine.

Lomachenko should be undefeated

11-year pro Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) turns 37 on Feb. 17 and is coming off an impressive 11th-round KO victory over former 135 lb. unified champion George Kambosos Jr. on May 12 in Perth, Australia.

Lomachenko was a raw deal in controversial losses to Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez, both of whom felt defeated. He wasn’t happy with his loss against Orlando Salido in his second pro fight in 2014.

Most of the fans who saw the Haney fight had Lomachenko winning quite comfortably and felt that the judges gave him the tree that night. With three controversial fights taken, Lomachenko should still be undefeated and be a much bigger star than he is now.

If Lomachenko is unhappy about his 12-round unanimous decision defeat against Haney on May 20, 2023, in Las Vegas, it is understandable why he is losing interest in boxing.
