Trainer Greg Hackett says the Dec. 14 contest between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach is a “good fight.” He points out that many casual boxing fans don’t know Roach (25-1-1, 15 KOs) because they haven’t followed the sport closely enough to become familiar with him.
Hackett says what Roach lacks is the “flare” that other fighters like Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney have because he has a “laid back” type of personality. He did not have the same opportunities to achieve notable fights. Roach holds the WBA super featherweight title after beating Hector Garcia last year, but the fight has gone under the radar of fans.
Tank Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) defends his WBA lightweight title against Roach on December 14 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The event will be shown on PBC on Amazon Prime Video. It is still unclear if it will be on PPV and who will be on the undercard. All this information will be announced soon.

“Lamont is the type of guy like even if he tried to bully you, he wouldn’t be completely bullied because his eyes are green, light skinned boy. He doesn’t look like a super mean bull.
“Tank’s got tattoos, and his eyes are a little off. He looks crazy like something’s wrong with him. He’s got braids, and he’s going to put a lot of (stuff) on. He’s going to come with a suit and all that. So, Tank comes with talent.
“Lamont is just a cool bull, but he can fight, and he’s a champion. We have to respect him as such. The problem is that we’re always looking for hype. We’re always looking for big fights when, honestly, really, this is a good fight
“Lamont Roach knows Tank Davis. Tank Davis knows Lamont Roach. It’s a local fight and it’s great for his part of town for the DMV. It’s massive. They both fought Hector Garcia. The reason I bring this up is because of the level of boxing.
“Tank only fought him a year and a half ago, Hector Garcia. So it’s the same level of boxing,” Hackett said of Tank and Roach fighting Hector Garcia. “So how can we say that Tank is (cherry) picking when this guy (Roach) has a title? They have a history and they know each other.
“The only thing missing is that flare, like a Ryan Garcia or Devin Haney. They had the flair on them because the attention has been on them for many years.
“A guy like Lamont, he crawls through the cracks. ‘Where did he come from?’ It’s for people who started watching boxing. I watched Lamong Roach for a while. They came to Philly to box. So, I seen Lamont Roach a lot of times said Hackett.
