Gervonta’s Critic Many have long wanted to see him face other top lightweights in Davis, so it is disappointing that his next fight will be against junior lightweight champion Lamont Roe. Ch Junior instead

Roach certainly feels the weight difference between he and Tank won’t be a factor when they step into the ring on Dec. 14 in Houston. to fight for Davis’ WBA title on pay-per-view.

“The tank isn’t the biggest 135-pounder. Everyone he fought was almost bigger than him.” Roach said in an interview with Cigar Talk’s Naji Grampus.– “I think the only person smaller than him is Pitbull (Isaac Cruz), and that’s just the height. He’s also technically bigger than Tank.

“Tank is comfortable at 135, so I don’t blame him for fighting at that weight. But he’s not a big man at 35. I don’t understand why people think, ‘Oh, you raise a smaller child.’ I’m not that stunted. They’ll keep saying that, I fight at 130 because that’s where I campaign. That’s where I started my career. That’s where I advanced to the world title. My plan has always been to move up to 135 and win another championship. It happened a little earlier than usual.”

Roach (25-1-1, 10 KO) turned professional in 2014 and has been competing within the 130-pound weight limit since 2017. Before that, he tended to weigh around 131 or 132 pounds, except in a few pros. Roach’s first when he scaled 134, 133 and 137.5.

“When a boxer starts his career They don’t have to make 130 pounds because we’re not in the title race or nothing,” said the 29-year-old boxer from Washington, D.C. “The opponents I got. The opponent chosen for me was either bigger or they couldn’t make weight. The fight(…) happened at 140. I was supposed to fight at 132. He was eight pounds overweight. I went to eat breakfast and weighed myself.”

Roach is 5-foot-7. Davis, 29, from Baltimore, is 5-foot-5.5.

Davis turned pro in 2013 at featherweight. and bounced between divisions By rising as high as with lightweight Before going on to compete in the junior lightweight division in 2017, defeating Jose Pedraza to win the world championship.

He fought once as a lightweight in 2019 against Yuriorkis Gamboa, returning to the junior lightweight division to defeat Leo. Santa Cruz in 2020, jumped up to junior welterweight to defeat Mario Barrios in 2021, then returned to 135 by the end of that year for Cruz’s Battle Davis has remained a lightweight ever since.
