Jaime Munguia weighed in at 167.7 lbs and his opponent Erik Bazinyan came in at 167.9 lbs at Thursday’s weigh-in for their 12-round super middleweight fight this Friday, September 20 at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

The event will be shown live on ESPN and ESPN+ starting at 10:30 pm ET / 7:30 pm PT. The preliminary portion of the card begins at 6:15 pm ET / 3:15 pm PT on ESPN+.

Munguia (43-1, 34 KOs) is set to face an unsuccessful title challenge against unified super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez on May 4. If Munguia is victorious against Bazinyan (32-0-1, 23 KOs), he could face Christian Mbilli next. It is important that Munguia shows progress in this fight after his last match against Canelo.

Heavyweight Richard Torrez Jr. he faces Joey Dawejko in an eight-round fight in the main support.

“I think this is the beginning of the next chapter for him, and I think he’s going to learn to be a little more cautious in his aggressive style,” said Todd Duboef, the president of Top Ranktalking about Jaime Munguia.

“He has a very telegenic style, and I think when we talk about those great fighters that touch people. Canelo, Morales, Barrera. They all had a telegenic style to them. I think Munguia has the same telegenic style. It’s exciting to watch.

“Munguia has a great ability to connect the dots of a long history of great Mexican fighters. Great legends have paved the way for Munguia to be an absolute superstar coming from Mexico. Erik (Morales) is behind it. So, We’re very excited about it.”

If Top Rank is going to turn Munguia’s career around, they’re going to need to invest some time in him because he’s not going to turn into a diamond after one or two fights.
