Five dangerous inmates manage to escape from a high security prison in Portugal

The Portuguese authorities have activated an international alert for the search and capture of five inmates who escaped from a prison near Lisbon on Saturday.

Five inmates They have escaped from the Jewish Valley prison (Vale de Judeus Prison), some 70 kilometers from Lisbon, on Saturday, as confirmed by the Portuguese authorities.

The prisoners had help from outside to climb and lower a six-meter-high wall. The authorities are warned of their dangerous profiles, so images have been released that identify them.

The Jewish Valley Prison is considered high security. The lack of towers that allowed the patio to be seen was fundamental to the success of the escape which, according to the National Prison Guard Union, was planned in detail.

Two cars and three accomplices

The five inmates waited for the moment when they knew that the guards would concentrate on monitor prison visits and, in a matter of a few minutes, they escaped. Two vehicles and three accomplices were waiting for them outside.

The authorities say that “international cooperation” has been “accelerated” and throughout the night of Saturday, the Judicial Police searched the interior of the prison. The objective was collect information such as visit logs and phone calls of the prisoners, who are still free.

The deputy general secretary of the country’s Internal Security System, Manuel Vieirahas assured that all national structures are activated to find them and that they have alerted the authorities throughout the Schengen area and Europe, including Interpol and Europol.

Who are the prisoners?

Among the five inmates there are two Portuguese, an Argentinian, a Georgian and a British who were serving sentences of between seven and 25 years in prison for crimes such as drug traffickingcriminal association, robbery, kidnapping, extortion, money laundering and kidnapping.

The Police have asked the population Don’t get close to them since they are considered “dangerous” and “violent“. According to the director of the Judicial Police, Luís Neves, “they will do everything to remain free.”
