The organizers of Hungary’s largest music festival, Sziget, have raised the event’s security alert as a precautionary measure following the recent foiled terrorist attacks at Taylor Swift’s concerts in the Austrian capital.
While away from Festival Island celebrates three decades of music and culture in the isla de Óbudaoff the coast of Budapestthe festival organizers have raised the security alert to guarantee the safety of the approximately 95,000 daily attendees.
Organizers declared the seven-day festival on high precautionary alert after Austrian police thwarted Wednesday two terrorist attacks against Taylor Swift’s concerts in the country’s capital.
The attacks were allegedly planned by individuals who claimed to be associated with the terrorist organization Islamic State (NO).
The Sziget Festival is guarded by thousands of security officers – including plainclothes Hungarian police officers and anti-terrorism experts – and even 50 security cameras.
But the 108-hectare island is especially vulnerable to an attack due to its accessibility by boat from the Hungarian capital, according to security personnel.
