One dead and eight trapped after the collapse of a part of a hotel in the Moselle River, in Germany
A part of a hotel in Kroev on the Moselle River in western Germany collapsed, leaving one person dead and eight others trapped, police said Wednesday.
Fourteen people were in the hotel when a floor of the building collapsed around 11 p.m. on Tuesday. Five people were able to leave the building unharmed, but others nine were trapped inside.
Early in the morning of Wednesday, emergency services confirmed that one person had died, but they had not yet been able to recover the body. They were in contact with some of the eight people who They are believed to be still in the building.some of them seriously injured, the police explained in a statement.
Police evacuated part of the surrounding buildings
There was no immediate information about the causes of the collapse or the identity of the people affected. The authorities 31 people were evacuated of the area around the collapsed building.
Police said it was “an extremely demanding deployment as emergency personnel can only enter the building with the utmost caution.” They said that some 250 emergency workersincluding drone specialists, were at the scene, as well as rescue dogs.
Kroev, with a population of about 2,200, is on a section of the Moselle near the resort town of Traben-Trarbach.
