Venice has recently announced a series of innovative measures to address the challenges of mass tourism following its pilot. These initiatives seek to improve the quality of life of residents and preserve the city’s cultural heritage.
Starting in August, a limitation on the size of tourist groupsreducing them to a maximum of 25 people This measure, which excludes children under two years of age, represents approximately half the capacity of a conventional tourist bus. Furthermore, there has been established a ban on the use of loudspeakers for tour guideswith the objective of reduce noise pollution in the city.
Elisabetta Pesce, the official in charge of security in Venice, explained that these policies are designed to improve visitor flow not only in the historic city center, but also on the popular islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello.
In a further effort to regulate tourism, Venice has announced plans to implement a daily visitor rate of 5 euros per person. This measure will be applied during 29 days of high influx between April and mid-July, including most weekends.
