Israel declared having attacked a Hezbollah commander this Tuesday in an attack in Beirut, the Lebanese capital, in which at least one woman died and dozens of people were injured.

The air attack occurs in the middle of a escalation of hostilities between Israel and the Lebanese Shiite guerrilla group Hezbollah.

Israel said the attack was aimed at the commander whom held responsible for the death of twelve children in a rocket attack over the weekend on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights to Syria.

“Tonight, the Israel Defense Forces carried out a targeted attack in Beirut against Fuad Shukuralso know as Sayved Mohsen, Hezbollah’s highest-ranking military commander and head of its strategic unit. “Fouad Shukur was the right-hand man of Hasan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, and his advisor in the planning and direction of attacks and operations,” the Israeli military spokesman said in a statement on Tuesday. Daniel Hagari.

Last April Israel kills another Hezbollah commander also in Lebanon.

“Clear violation of international law” for the prime minister

Hezbollah did not immediately confirm the commander’s death, and it was not immediately clear if he was hit.

Lebanon’s Public Health Ministry said the attack in a southern suburb of the capital killed one woman and injured 68some of them seriously.

The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, and an appeal was made to the population to donate blood.

The Lebanese Prime Minister, Najib Mikatipublished on social networks that “this criminal act What took place tonight is one more link in a series of aggressive operations that claim civilians in clear violation of international law and international humanitarian law. “This is something that we put in the hands of the international community, which must assume its responsibility and press with all its strength to force Israel to end its aggressions and threats and implement international resolutions.”

The attack was condemned by Iranian and Syrian officials, with the Iranian embassy in Lebanon describing the attack as “sinful and cowardly.”

The Israeli Army and Hezbollah have been exchanging almost daily attacks for ten months with the war on Gaza as a backdrop, but until now they had kept the conflict contained without it leading to an open war.

Rescue operations were immediately launched in the remains of the building bombed by Israel this Tuesday, in the southern suburbs of Beirut known as Dahye, a major stronghold of the Shiite group Hezbollah.
