Numerous airlines have canceled their flights to Lebanon as Tensions increase between Israel and Hezbollah. Lebanon expects retaliatory attack after missile hits soccer field and killed 12 people in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Israel blamed the militant group Hezbollah for the attack, but the Iranian-backed Lebanese group deny this statement. Frankfurt-based Lufthansa group has confirmed that three of its airlines (Lufthansa, Swiss and Eurowings) have suspended flights to and from Beirut until August 5 included.

Air France has also canceled some of its flights, while other airlines have changed their schedules. However, canceled flights and rising tensions have not deterred all travelers.

The Lebanese continue to travel

“As for threats, have not affected at all to my decision to come to Lebanon. And even if there are threats, we will continue to come to Lebanon, especially to the south,” said Hadi Sharqawi, a Lebanese student who traveled from Italy.

“It is normal that on social networks there is news of canceled flights. And there are some that have been delayed, but the situation is quite normal here“said Ali Shahimi, another Lebanese who traveled from Italy.

The Middle East Airlines boss addressed fears of rising tensions after meeting Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati. According to the National News Agency, Mikati denied that Rafik Hariri Airport had received threats or information that the airport could be the target of an attack.
