Brazilian André Jardine, coach of the champion America del mexican soccerasserted this Friday that for his team to aspire to the three-time championship in the Clausura 2024, it must maintain its instinct of dissatisfaction.
“If we do the same as the last tournament, it most likely will not be enough to become champion again. The rivals are getting stronger, they are getting better, that is why we must continue with that feeling of dissatisfaction that we have to go for more,” said the coach.
Jardine spoke in advance of the Águilas’ debut in the Clausura 2024 in which this Saturday they will visit San Luis on matchday one.
The helmsman arrived at América at the beginning of Clausura 2023, a competition in which he won his first league title in which he defeated Tigres UANL in the final.
In the Apertura 2024 he achieved the two-time championship, with a victory against Blue Crosstrophies that granted the title of Champion of Champions to his team.
Last week the helmsman added his fourth title leading the blue and yellow team by lifting the Super Cup after beating Tigres UANL.
The challenge for this competition will be to make the Águilas the first team of this century in local soccer capable of winning three consecutive leagues, something that the Brazilian acknowledged will be more complicated due to the wear and tear to which his players have been subjected.
“It is a great happiness to become champions and then two-time champions, but you end up paying a high price in the next competition. You wear out more because you played more, you had less vacation time and less preparation time,” he noted.
Under the command of the South American, América has confirmed itself as the team with the most league wins in Mexico, with 15, three more than Guadalajara, its staunch rival, which has 12.
