The balances of power in the European Parliament are shifting again, with Spain’s far-right party moving from the ECR group led by Meloni’s party to a potential new alliance led by Orbán’s Fidesz party.
The Spanish far-right party Vox, which currently has six MEPs, has officially announced that leaves the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group to join a possible new formation led by the Fidesz party of Viktor OrbánPrime Minister of Hungary.
The Orban allianceIt already includes the Czech ANO, the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) and the Portuguese Chega. But Patriots for Europe still It has to comply with other rules to become a political group in the European Parliament. The leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, declared that the decision responds to the “historic opportunity” to fight against a coalition of center-right, socialist and far-left forces.
The Spanish far-right party expressed its gratitude to the ECR group and, in particular, its friendship with the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, and her party, Fratelli d’Italia. “Giorgia Meloni will always be partner, friend and ally of Vox“, the party stated in a statement. The decision comes after the ECR group held its constitutive meeting this Wednesday, in which Vox MEP Hermann Tertsch He was elected vice president of the party.
