Luciano Spalletti said, after Italy’s elimination at the hands of Swiss in the round of 16 of the European Championship, that the second Swiss goal at the beginning of the second half had “cut off the legs” of his team.

“That goal at the beginning of the second half cut our legs, we were not very incisive. The difference was made by the pace, which was too lower than theirs in the first half,” Spalletti said after the game.

“We need more rhythm, more consistency, more sacrifice. We have not arrived at this Euro Cup in exceptional conditions and doing everything at this temperature is not easy, but something definitely has to change,” he added.

Spalletti said that the tournament has been an experience from which something could be built, but that it takes time. “There is the possibility of building something, but it takes time. I haven’t had time, all my predecessors have had more games than me,” he recalled.

The responsibility for the elimination, according to Spalletti, is primarily yours. “The responsibility always lies with the coach, I made the decisions,” he stressed.
