The body of 78-year-old monk Bhaddanta Munindarbhivamsa was transported in a vehicle in the design of a Karaweik barge: a vessel ornamented with a golden image of a mythical bird on its bow.
A crowd watched as the body was carried from a temple in the city of peguwhere it had been kept for the past week so that the mourners will pay their respects.
