“Extreme violence”

Of the incidents documented by RIAS last year, seven cases were classified as “extreme violence”since they put or could endanger human lives or cause serious injuries. There were 329 cases of selective material damage183 threats and 4,060 incidents of offensive behavior.

1,583 of last year’s incidents took place on the street, more than double the previous year, and 999 occurred on the Internet, which represents an increase compared to 853 in 2022.

RIAS also recorded 471 incidents in educational centers and 311 in the public transportationboth more than double that of the previous year.

Stricter measures

Felix Klein, Federal Government Commissioner for Jewish Life in Germany and the Fight against Anti-Semitism, has asked stricter measures to combat Jewish hatred.

“In order to provide the Police with effective means to comprehensively combat anti-Jewish incitement and violence, I request that the Penal Code be modified. For example, calling for the destruction of other States should be criminalized,” he declared.

Despite this increase in anti-semitic behaviora senior official of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Daniel Botmann, stated that “currently “We are not seeing the effect of an emigration of Jews from Germany.”which contrasts with the movement that has been observed from the neighboring France in recent years.
