A former OpenAI employee is launching a company that aims to develop artificial intelligence to the next level, beyond ChatGPT,
OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever, who left the company that created ChatGPT Last month, he announced a new artificial intelligence (AI) company, which he called Safe Superintelligence o SSI.
“I’m starting a new company,” Sutskever wrote on X on Wednesday. “We will pursue safe superintelligence onlinea, with a focus, an objective and a product”.
He described SSI as a start-up that “addresses security and capabilities in tandem”, So the company advances its AI system while still prioritizing security.
Unlike other AI companies that face external pressures, such as OpenAI or Google, SSI will have a “singular focus,” meaning “no distraction from management overhead or product cycles”.
“Our business model means that security and progress are insulated from short-term commercial pressures,” he says, adding that can “climb in peace”.
In November, Sutskever led the ouster of OpenAI co-founder and CEO, Sam Altmanwhich lasted five days before he was rehired. The coup, carried out together with other directors, was due to the Concern over Altman’s handling of AI safety.
Suction spoons led the super alignment team OpenAI along with Jan Leike, who also left in May to join the rival company of IA Anthropic. The team was focused on guiding and controlling AI systems, but has been downsizing since the two left OpenAI.
“I’ve been disagree with OpenAI management on the company’s core priorities for quite a while, until we finally reached a breaking point,” Sutskever said when he left OpenAI.
Sutskever is creating the company with Daniel Gross, who oversaw the efforts of Apple on AI and search, and his former OpenAI colleague Daniel Levy. The company has offices in Palo Alto, California, and Tel Aviv, Israel.
