Turki Al-Sheikh just announced that Ryan Garcia will fight former WBA welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, Devin Haney faces Jose Ramirez, and Martin Bakole will fight Efe Ajagba on the same card in May. This is expected to be shown on PPV from Times Square in New York.
Triple-Header Matches
- Ryan Garcia vs. Rolando Romero
- Devin Haney vs. Jose Ramirez
- Martin Bacole vs. Efe Ajagba
Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) was given a tough fight, going against former WBA and WBO light welterweight champion Jose Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs). I wonder if it was Bill Haney’s bright idea to pit Devin against this guy. I might live to regret taking this fight.
Rolly Romero (16-2, 13 KOs) is a surprise opponent for Ryan, as Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz had been the name he was rumored to be fighting. Romero is seen as a one-hit wonder.
Cruz knocked out Rolly in the eighth round last year on March 30 in a title mismatch. For Ryan to fight Rolly, he suggests that he doesn’t want to take any risk of losing to him coming from his long 13-month layoff.
This was a fight that fans would be excited about, but there would have been a lot of risk for Garcia because Cruz could actually put up a fight. Rolly has two of his last four fights, and some believe he would have lost a third if not for a freak stoppage in his May 2023 bout against Ismael Barroso.
That’s when the referee stopped the fight out of the blue after Rolly threw a flurry of punches, with all the punches in the air. Then he raised Rolly’s hand in the air, giving him a knockout victory, while Barroso is just standing there, like, “What’s going on here.” No rematch was given to Barroso, which made it look even worse for Rolly.
Ring Magazine is excited to announce its first boxing card in the United States in May 2025 in collaboration with the video game Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves (what the card will be called later) and SNK Games.
The card includes three fights:
